H.E. Shaikh Khaled bin Humood Al Khalifa, CEO, Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA), recently headed Bahrain’s delegation at 44th Meeting of World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Commission for the Middle East.

“Our participation in this meeting comes as a part of our commitment and role as active members of the UNWTO Commission for the Middle East. Also the Kingdom of Bahrain is a member of the UNWTO Executive Council for two terms of the General Assembly, the 22nd and 23rd sessions, which runs until 2021,” commented Al Khalifa.

The meeting was held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt from May 08 – 09 and saw committee members, among other topics, discuss Zurab Pololikashvili, secretary general, UNWTO’s report on global and regional tourism trends, management vision and priorities.

Al Khalifa also held several meetings with official delegations to discuss the current challenges and the future outlook of the region’s tourism industry.

He also discussed the implementation of programmes that support the role of tourism in achieving United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030, which, among other things, include ending poverty and hunger and building peaceful, just and inclusive societies.
