Experts Discuss Travel Technology Impact at ATM

A highlight of this year’s Arabian Travel Market (ATM) saw industry experts discuss how technology trends are transforming the Middle East travel industry.

Specialists from US-based global travel technology company, Sabre, Singapore-based international travel search engine, Wego, and Middle East online travel agency, tajawal, discussed the top three trends transforming the regional travel industry.

Jorge Vilches, senior vice president, Air Line of Business, Sabre; Ross Veitch, CEO, Wego; and Muhammad Chbib, CEO, tajawal, identified three main shifts, namely, evolving consumer behaviour, digital transformation, and changing airline distribution models.

Describing them as five to 10 years ahead, Veitch suggested Middle East stakeholders look to China’s advanced digital ecosystems. “Also, focus on the speed of your technology rather than the way it looks. And always benchmark your performance against that of other companies,” he said.

Chbib suggested focus on data and insights, cautioning, “Don’t jump on every new technology – around 95 percent are fads and don’t amount to anything. Lastly, always focus on the consumer and understanding their unique individual needs.”

Vilches advised focus on creating value for travellers, understanding traveller segments, and investing in technology and online platforms.
