RAK Recognised as Leading Adventure Destination

Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA) recently celebrated two major wins at this year’s World Travel Awards Middle East Gala Ceremony.

Held for the first time at Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah, the April 19 event saw RAKTDA taking home the accolade for Middle East’s Leading Adventure Destination 2018 thanks to product innovation including the opening of the Via Ferrata and Jebel Jais Flight: The World’s Longest Zipline.

ToroVerde, the operator of Jebel Jais Flight, also walked away with the gong for Middle East’s Leading Adventure Tourist Attraction.

RAK’s diverse landscape features the Hajar Mountains and Jebel Jais, the UAE’s highest peak, the 2.83 km zipline follows other highly successful adventure tourism initiatives including Jebel Jais Via Ferrata (Iron Path), hiking and climbing routes.

Haitham Mattar, CEO, RAKTDA, commented, “The adventure tourism market is expected to grow by 46 percent by 2020 and with our natural assets we are well placed to capitalise on this trend and further establish our reputation as the adventure tourism hub of the region.”
