Calendar Shift Impacted Dubai’s July Performance

According to STR, hotels in Dubai reported negative year-on-year performance in July, consistent with the shift in Ramadan dates which meant Eid Al-Fitr fell in June, compared to 2016 when the busy holiday period was in July.

During the month, occupancy fell 3.6 percent to 65.7 percent, while average daily rate declined 11.5 percent to AED471.25 (USD128.30).

All in all, RevPAR plummeted to AED309.76 (USD84.33), a drop of 14.7 percent over July 2016.

Despite a 1.8 percent increase in demand, the falling measures were exacerbated by a 5.6 percent jump in supply across the emirate.
