In 2016, tourism revenue in Saudi Arabia reached SAR166.8 billion (USD44.47 billion), a growth rate of seven percent over 2015, as revealed by Saudi Commission for Tourism & National Heritage (SCTH).


The number of domestic tourism trips during the reviewed period rose 2.3 percent to 47.5 million, while the value of domestic spending stood at SAR44.9 billion (USD11.97 billion).


Total tourism investment in the Kingdom exceeded SAR151 billion (USD40.26 billion) during the year under review.

Moreover, since the start of SCTH supervision of the accommodation sector, the number of properties soared from 1,402 in 2009 to 6,527 by the end of 2016, while the number of tour operators climbed from 10 in 2002 to 566.
