With its current status as Capital of Arab Tourism, Abha is honouring more than 20 years of active development of Saudi Arabian tourism.

The destination’s tourism festivals will commemorate the establishment of the Saudi Commission for Tourism & National Heritage (SCTH) in 2001 and its successful projects, which transformed society’s views and understanding of the importance of tourism, antiquities and national heritage.

Among other achievements, SCTH implemented the national tourism development strategy in collaboration with 621 partners, and reached 21 resolutions to support the sector.

Since its inception, the contribution of domestic tourism to the country’s economy doubled, while the industry has become one of the most developed non-oil sectors with revenues reaching SAR166.8billion (USD44.47billion) at the end of 2016.
