In January, hotels in Sharjah recorded a 5.5 percent year-on-year growth in occupancy, according to the latest report by STR.

At the same time, compared to the same month in 2016, average occupancy levels across the UAE increased 0.5 percent during January to reach 81 percent.

However, average room rates at hotels across the country fell eight percent in the month under review, to reach AED712 (USD195) due to strong market growth in room supply.

It is said that the UAE's hotel occupancy rates, in general, are among the highest in the world.
