SAUDIA and SITAONAIR Launch Free WhatsApp

Passengers flying with Saudi Arabian Airlines (SAUDIA) can now use WhatsApp messaging app in-flight at no extra cost, following the carrier’s partnership with SITAONAIR.

Switzerland-based SITAONAIR enables airline passengers to use mobile phones and laptops for calls, text messaging, emails and Internet browsing.

In what SAUDIA describes as a Middle East first, SAUDIA passengers flying domestically within Saudi Arabia, as well as on select international routes, have had, since May 05, access to a free WhatsApp service for 10MB of text message usage.

Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, director general, SAUDIA, elaborated, “WhatsApp needs no introduction – it is one of the most popular social media messaging applications in the world, and a favourite of the Middle East.

“To now be offering WhatsApp as a free service to thousands of passengers every day, truly reflects SAUDIA’s position as the airline carrier for the digital age, and an airline which provides the latest technological advancements onboard. Once more, it is SITAONAIR’s flexible approach and digital harmonisation mastery that has enabled us to advance our ambitions, and deliver the in-flight connected experience now.”
