Having begun on April 17, the new service sees the national carrier operating a Boeing B737 aircraft between Baghdad International Airport and Boryspil International Airport once a week, on Tuesdays.
Flights depart Baghdad at 11:00 arriving in Kiev at 14:40 before departing Ukraine at 16:00 to arrive back in Baghdad at 19:40 (all times local).
Iraqi Embassy to Ukraine recently released a statement saying the flights follow a relevant agreement signed in Kiev on April 10. It said Bakr Ahmed al-Jaff, ambassador, Iraq, had welcomed the direct service, saying it would facilitate the exchange of visits between official delegations.
The new service is also anticipated to ease travelling for Iraqi students studying at Ukrainian higher educational institutions and activate the movement of tourists, citizens seeking medical treatment, businessmen and investors between the two countries, he added.
Mahmoud Mustafa Al-Qausi, general secretary, Ukraine, Iraqi Airways, said the airline currently plans to conduct four direct flights between Baghdad and Kiev per month with a total capacity of 800 – 1,000 passengers, with the possibility of increasing the number in the future.
