In July, global passenger traffic reached record levels with a growth of 6.8 percent year-on-year, as revealed by Airports Council International.

Furthermore, air freight volumes also rose, up 8.9 percent for the month under review.All regions posted robust gains, particularly Europe, Asia Pacific and Africa with overall increases of 9.9 percent, 9.4 percent and 7.5 percent, respectively.

Europe’s success was largely contributed by Turkey’s continued recovery in July where total passenger traffic grew 17.6 percent year-on-year at Istanbul Atatürk Airport.

As with the passenger traffic numbers, Istanbul Atatürk Airport stood out in freight volumes, growing 32.2 percent year-on- year while Heathrow Airport contributed a significant part of the freight market’s increase in volume, growing 15.1 percent during July.
