In the first quarter (Q1) of the year, Sharjah International Airport (SIA) recorded significant year-on-year improvements in passenger traffic, up two percent, and aircraft movements, which grew three percent compared to Q1 2016.

During the period under review, the hub welcomed 2.74 million passengers, continuing the increasing figures observed in the past five years. January was a particularly strong month, with a four percent year-on-year boost in passenger traffic.

The strategic location of the hub and its connectivity to the country’s seven emirates has been a catalyst for its growth, making it a convenient spot for both business and leisure travellers.

Aiming to welcome 25 million passengers by 2027, Sharjah Airport Authority recently appointed Parsons Overseas to oversee a USD400 million expansion project.
